Carnival

Tonight we visited our church carnival. It was a beautiful day and we were very glad to see the sun after a week of rain. There were some threatening clouds and a few sprinkles as we left but it was a perfect night. We bought a handful of tickets and started with a ride on the carousel. When the horses started going up and down, Nora had a look of pure amazement, wonder and joy. It was priceless. Jack too was excited and a little tense at first, but relaxed as the ride went on. Leigh and I stood by their sides and got a free ride too!

We spotted Saige and Farrah getting ice cream, so we met up with the Smiths and had some chocolate ice cream cones. Mid-seventies and toddlers eating ice cream equals drippy, sticky, happy kids. After that they all went through an obstacle coarse which had a little climb then a small tunnel that dropped into a ball pit. Then a rope net climb up to a bridge and down a long (but very slow) slide. Nora was first to make it through and I'll note that she was wearing a dress and slippery sparkle shoes!

After this, we put them on the lady bug ride that went up and down and round and round with lots of smiles. Next was the dragon mini roller coaster. It started out with bigs smiles and laughter, but after a few laps Jack got scared. Almost immediately, Nora threw her arm around him and held him close. He still cried for the next couple laps until the end but it was absolutely precious to see the love and empathy between the two of them. It was amazing. Jack did not was to leave with a bad experience, so they rode the milder cars and motorcycles ride a la Dorney Park circa 1978. Jack and Nora were on the front of the motorcycles with Saige behind Jack and Farrah behind Nora. Only smiles and laughter on this one. We finished out the night with one more run through the obstacle course and got balloons.

Nora's balloon popped as we were leaving the parking lot, so we circled back and Leigh saved the day by running back to the balloon stand and getting a replacement pink balloon.

It was a lot of new experiences packed into a short window of time, but it was magical and perfect. We got a few videos that I will hopefully post soon.
