Yesterday was a big day. Since Myles died, the kids have been asking fairly regularly to get their own pets. Jack wanted a lizard and Nora wanted a hamster. We have been pushing back the timeframe but yesterday, I said yes and we now have a Chinese Dwarf hamster called Molly, originally named Goldie, then Rosey and finally Molly, and a Bearded Dragon named Toothless, originally Dragonite. We spent a long time at Petco talking with a very knowledge young man named Tyler. He said that the choices we made were the best within each species with respect to friendliness and resiliency for first time pet owners. After the selections were made and all the necessary supplies were assembled, we headed home to set everything up. The setup went well and they were very excited to get to hold them which went on most of the evening. We would all go from Nora's room after holding Molly for a few minutes, then back to Jack's to hold Toothless. We did not have any escapes but Toothless did jump from Jack to Nora's arm wh
en the dog barked. We also learned that Molly loves her wheel and runs late at night, so the wheel got removed around 11:00pm. We also discussed the responsibility that goes with a pet and they both promised to feed and clean their pet's habitats, so here is hoping that all goes to plan ;)
In other news, we continue to pick raspberries and made our second pie on Wednesday. Leigh went to a conference in Atlanta, so we took her to the airport on Wednesday. The kids liked seeing the airport and we had a good afternoon but they were a little said at bedtime. Last night was better but the pets helped to distract them. We also Facetimed and they told mommy all about their new pets.
And lastly, on Wednesday afternoon, Nora lost another tooth on the bottom which brings her total to 4. The tooth fairy came and left her a Sacagawea coin.
