On Monday, Jack and Nora took their first trip to the beach, but not. We drove to Cape May in the afternoon and after checking into Congress Hall (which was great), we headed out for a quick dinner before putting the kids to bed. We ate at the Cape May Fish Market, which turned out to be a bad choice. Leigh ordered the Salmon and we gave a little to the kids. Nora was not interested but Jack ate some and I finished what Leigh could not after my crab cake. After returning to our room about 1/2 hr later, Jack got sick. After we cleaned him up, he seemed to be ok. Leigh was not feeling great at this point, so we gave the kids their bottles and put them down. I ran out to find out if there were any medical facilities nearby as Leigh's condition worsened. I picked up some water and headed back to the room to find Leigh in alot of discomfort, so concerned that Jack was in danger of dehydration based on Leigh's experience, we woke the kids and headed to the ER. The GPS got us a little off track, but a little after 9 pm we were there. They admitted Leigh and Jack, and soon after I became ill and was admitted as well. We were placed on IVs and just before 1:00 am we were back in the car to the hotel. The nurses were amazing at the Cape Medical Center. They held Jack quite a bit and Nora when I was not able. Nora was not too keen on being held by a stranger, but she kept us afloat and managed to stay healthy. We found out my dad was sick at home with a stomach virus that night too. Strange. The grandparents and aunt Ashley joined us on Wednesday after we spent Tuesday recovering in the hotel room. We did venture down to the pool briefly on Tuesday to get some fresh air and experience the beautiful morning breeze coming off the ocean. Wednesday was also beautiful and we had a great time at the pool, but did not make it down to the beach. We planned on doing that on Thursday. Thursday brought cool temperatures and rain and sickness for Ashley. So, despite our best efforts, the kids did not get down to the sand on this trip. Maybe next time.
Today is Friday and Jack got his first haircut. We were at our friend Donna's salon and after Leigh got her style, Donna trimmed a few of Jack's hairs which we saved. No cut for Nora, her hair is pretty even at this point. They both continue to pull up. Nora will stand for a few seconds without holding on and Jack is close to pulling himself up to his feet. It is amazing to see them develop and discover. Nora saw me bend my knees then stand back up quickly in an attempt to make them laugh. She was standing and immediately mimicked my movement, then laughed hystarically. Jack made some waving motions when I was waving at him and loves to talk. We think he says Jack, Duck, Up, Cat and Dog, but those were are heard through parents ears!
