We walked down a few blocks and were able to get onto the beach. The guy was right that the beach was closed for 5 to 10 blocks at a time but not the entire beach like the guy made us think. We rented bikes for the we with kids seats, so we can zip down the 6 blocks and be on the sand lickety split!
After some beach time and naps, we grabbed dinner in town at a pub. The kids were a little amped up and the food was not to their liking, but they did get ice cream with their meals, so that was good :) By bedtime, Nora was running a fever and Jack would follow on Sunday. They both slept a lot on Sunday, but we did go to the beach and they both enjoyed being in the water. Jack loved just standing sideways in the water and saying, "my surfing!" We also went to Springer's for ice cream which is always a treat. Nora and I got red raspberry, Jack got blue cookie dough with Oreos and Leigh got sugar-free coffee. There is a elementary school nearby and we had a blast playing on the playset. We had dinner in and Leigh watched the little mermaid with the kids while I went exploring on my bike. I was hoping to find a video store, but I came up empty handed. I really enjoyed the 10 mile ride though.
Today we went to Uncle Bill's for breakfast then played at a playground in Avalon. We hit the beach for an hour or so. It feels so good to hear the waves and feel the sun and experience the beach though the kids. Simply things like feeling your feet sink into the sand as the waves roll in and out is magical for them. Jumping waves and feeling the undertow, that first splash of salt water in the face :) it is amazing.
Although the fevers were down today, the appetites are still reduced substantially, so lunch was mainly snacks and juice then naps. I took a little time on the beach while they napped and jumped into the ocean for the first time. Jumping waves like a kid. We rode our bikes to Avalon for dinner and went to Tonio's Seafood Shack which was pretty good. The kids liked watching the lobster tank and got to eat for free. Then we went and played Pirate Island mini golf. They loved the pirate ship and got eye patches at the end. All and all a pretty awesome day!
